         Wading Fishing Trip Full Day
$450.00

Wading Fishing Trip Full Day

Rangeley, Maine

The Rangeley Region is blessed with an abundance of flowing water perfect for Brook Trout and Landlocked Salmon. The " big three" are the Kennebago , Magalloway, and Rapid rivers. These three rivers consume most of our attention. Other waters in the area are the Rangeley, Cupsuptic, and Dead Rivers. Fly fishing on rivers starts as early as the first of April on the Magalloway River however that may be too early for a full day trip. The Rapid will start to fish as you get into the month of May. The Kennebago gets off to a slower start and isn't ready to fish till the end of May. Nymphs and streamers are the most successful methods in the spring. The fish begin their river life after ice out as they follow the spawning smelt up the mouths of the rivers. The next big feeding event is the sucker spawn beginning after the middle part of May. Hatches soon follow as the water warms. This is when the fun begins as the fishermen try to "match the hatch " through the summer months. Wading our rivers on a guided trip can be rewarding and good exercise. Our guides can match you up with the level of wading that you are comfortable with to make sure you have a safe and rewarding outdoor adventure.

Small Streams Fly Fishing Trip Full Day

Small Streams Fly Fishing Trip Full Day

Rangeley, Maine

The Rangeley Region is a great place to escape the crowds and explore the many smaller streams our backcountry offers. Brooks and streams of all sizes hold native brookies that come readily to a fly. Our fly fishing guides love to take fisherman into the back country to explore and share the quiet places. The typical streams we fish on these trips offer a diversity of water, sometimes fast riffles and other times long stretches of alternating cut banks. Part of the fun on these trips is never knowing what lies around the next bend. The best timing for our backcountry adventures is mid to late summer. As the water temps on the bigger rivers warm, the smaller streams and headwaters stay cooler. This cooler water means an abundance of healthy, active native brook trout. Most times all we fish for a fly are dry flies like Klinkhamer Emerger, Adams, and Purple Haze. The brookies in these smaller streams are generally no bigger than 10 inches and are best fished for with smaller weight, shorter rods. We encourage you to join us on a guided backcountry adventure.

Small Ponds Fly Fishing Trip Full Day

Small Ponds Fly Fishing Trip Full Day

Rangeley, Maine

There are dozens of small ponds in the Rangeley area, many of which are “fly fishing only”. These are fished from a stable canoe or kayak. Pond action begins in early spring just after ice out on those bodies of water that have smelt as a resident bait fish. The Brookies and Salmon will feed on these bait fish after ice out, offering the fishermen the first action of the season. As the water warms the mayflies take over as the main food source. Mostly Henricksons, March Browns, and Red Quills. This is a great time of the summer to be on the water. Caddis will follow as the mayflies fade away and become the dry fly main stay for the summer months. These bugs are copied most effectively with emergers and soft hackles. On many of our lakes and ponds there are good drake and hex hatches. These largest of our mayflies typically show up in the last week of June depending on the specific body of water. In the fall bright colored streamers and leech patterns work best. Small emergers fished just under the surface also work well in the end of the season.

2 Hour Wade Trip

2 Hour Wade Trip

Otto, North Carolina

Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing guides offer waded fly fishing trips on many different streams, rivers, and creeks across western North Carolina.

The areas we fish vary from dense Rhododendron forests with small tributaries meandering about that are filled with tiny wild brook trout, to large rivers that are rough and tumbling that hold enormous, wild brown trout. We also frequently fish areas that are stocked with massive fish that increase your odds of catching a monster.

We mainly guide wade trips on 3 different rivers, but we sometimes go off the beaten path based on the experience of the angler, and the current conditions.

Under “Where We Fish” is a rundown of the rivers and areas we frequently fish. Click on the name for even more details about each area’s unique benefits, beauty, fish varieties available, and challenges

We have a 3 client to 1 guide ratio which is represented in the price. If you would like a more specialized guided experience, we recommend a 2 client to 1 guide ratio, available at an added cost. Please call for details.

PLEASE READ Cancellation Policy

At Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing, we operate year-round with a group of professional, full-time fishing guides. When scheduling a fishing trip with us, we ask you to try to avoid canceling or rescheduling your fishing trip as this creates scheduling and booking conflicts with our guides.

The cancellation and booking policy can be found below. This policy reflects the rights of Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing, LLC and applies to all of our fishing trips. We understand that unforeseen situations may arise beyond control which sometimes affects travel plans. We believe in a fair approach to cancellations. Our cancellation policy is such that it protects our guides’ livelihoods if a scheduled guide trip is canceled. In some situations, it allows deposits from canceled trips toward future trip bookings.

Only your fishing guide may cancel your guided trip prior to the scheduled date due to weather, river conditions, or mechanical breakdown.

Our trips fill quickly, therefore when reserving a trip in advance, a $100, non-refundable deposit is required to hold your trip on the water. No exceptions.

If you do not show up for your trip, you will be charged the full price of the scheduled guide trip.

Fishing trips that cancel less than 48 hours or in the event of a “no show” recipient will result in the forfeiture of deposit and remaining trip balance.'

Guided fishing trips proceed if the guide deems the conditions are safe rain or shine. Inclement weather or undesirable fishing conditions are NOT acceptable reasons for the client to cancel.

In the event of dangerous conditions, Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing reserves the right to cancel the trip. If your reservation is cancelled due to unsafe conditions, you will have the option to apply your deposit towards a future trip within the calendar year.

Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing feels that this policy is more than fair. At the end of the day, we want you to have a terrific time on the water with us under favorable conditions.
