Two giant steam engines brought into the Maine woods across the ice of Moosehead Lake in order to move logs from one watershed to another. Spend a night on Pillsbury Island, the farthest point Henry David Thoreau made it into the Allagash. Fish for wild native brook trout below Churchill Dam and take a tour of the logging museum at what was once a small village. The Kennebec River is the only river in Maine that holds brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and landlocked salmon. There have been many days that all four have been caught in the same day while drifting it's various sections. My largest brown and rainbow trout on a fly have come from the Kennebec. It is full of deep runs, pools, and riffles with fish hiding behind nearly every rock! Average size of any species is 12 to 16 inches with many over 18 inches and some over 20. The first three miles or so of river moves quickly before it widens out and slows down where smallmouth bass are abundant and the occasional largemouth. Full day trip includes lunch on one of the many islands where some wade fishing can take place. Fully guided ruffed grouse hunt in Maine's remote wilderness. Come take a ride out to the big woods and hit the dirt roads for some grouse hunting. Enjoy beautiful views and almost guaranteed wildlife sightings (especially moose) while we search for grouse. It is not uncommon to fill you daily bag limit of four birds before lunch. We will take a break for lunch, which will be provided, before we get back at it for the afternoon. Maine has the highest population of wild native brook trout in the lower 48 and these beautiful remote places are where they live! The ponds are often deep and spring fed with unique aquatic environments and the cold mountain streams are filled with runs, pools, an riffles that hold trout in nearly every spot. Moosehead Lake, New England's largest fresh water lake, is the most popular destination. Deep and cold full of lake trout, landlocked salmon, and big brook trout. Enjoy a day on the "big lake", learn about the logging and indigenous people history, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and troll right at the base of Mt. Kineo, a nearly 1800 foot shear rock face that drops well over 200 feet into the water. Lake or Pond Trolling with or without downriggers: Book a trip to one of Maine's countless lakes or ponds to troll for big salmon, brown trout, brook trout or lake trout (togue) in my 24 pontoon boat. Relax and troll in comfort and stay out of the rain or sun under the bimini top. I'll bring out a grill and cooler full of food and drinks for us to enjoy a fresh cooked lunch, often deer or moose depending on preference. Take a float for probably the hardest fighting fish pound for pound in Maine, smallmouth bass. Not uncommon to land 40 plus fish in a day, including some fish in the 20" 4lb plus range. They hammer streamers, smash poppers and dries on the surface, and chase lures if fly fishing is not your forte. Wildlife is abundant as we often see bald eagles, ospreys, blue herons, egrets, cormorants, and Canadian geese. Half day trips also available. Enjoy a day on the famed West Branch of the Penobscot river fishing for it's renown salmon and brook trout. This is a tailwater fishery below Ripogenus Dam, a large bottom release dam that keeps the river cold all year long. The salmon and trout in this stretch reside in the river year around and grow to be very good sizes. We launch right at the Big Eddy Campground off the Golden Rd and begin fishing in the eddy. Many fish are often caught here and on some occasions we never leave the eddy. Enjoy a fresh cooked meal at the campground overlooking the eddy before we drop down and fish the rest of the river, about a mile drift. The scenery, wildlife, and fishing are incredible!
